where to find win 98 drivers for Geforce4 440 go (dell) edit: found

i am trying to load win 98 on my 8200 (double boot) and cant find the drivers for the video card

A point in the right direction please

Does any one remember the command to fix the boot sector of win 98? is it fixboot?

I had 98 working then did fixboot in xp repair console and now I cant get into 98.
I am trying to install 98 after I installed xp on this lap top .
My plan was to fix the mbr in 98 then try the repair console again.

I wish I knew. I also wanted to dual boot my I8200 (XP Pro and ME). I installed Win ME just to find that there are no drivers for it. If you ever find video, modem, or sound drivers for 9X let me know.

The sound and modem drivers from dell disk works in 98. Its just the video drivers I am having problems with.

Good News.

I got an E-mail from Nvidia software support who happen to see my post here in anandtech he offered to mail me the drivers for 98 but it was around 6mb in size. I am not sure how big my mailbox at my regular e-mail is but my yahoo can only accept 6mb.

I let you know if I get it.

oh, by the way, when dual booting with a Win9x/ME OS, you really want to install the 9x/ME OS FIRST and than the other OS after that. installing 9x/ME after the other OS is asking for trouble.

That is my current headache at this time. I have been trying to install 98 after xp but it keeps erasing the mbr even if I use "setup /ntldr" according to the FAQ you can install 98 after w2k and according to "faqman" andyhui this should work with xp.

It still 98 still rewrites the mbr and when I try to repair it under xp recovery console (fixboot) xp fubars the boot sequence for 98 and I no longer can get into 98 although the choice is there.

I am at the point where I am about to give up and just reinstall xp after 98.

have you made C fat32 as it's a requirement if you want to use xp's boot loader?

You didn't make XP as an NTFS partition did you?
Really you should just wipe it out again and install 98 then XP as a full install (not upgrade) using FAT32.

The first thing I did when I got the 8200 was resize the hardrive (presizer.exe) then reformat the hard drive and all the partitions (fat 32) Then reinstalled xp on c:/ programs on d: and I have 2 other partitions for dat and windows 98.

At this point I have spent a lot of time trying to figure how to reinstall 98 after xp that I think I will spend less time just installing 98 then reinstall xp (other words I give up)

sw support e-mailed me the windows 98 drivers today.

I must commend NVIDIAS support team I did not even ask for it in there web site they happen to be monitoring our forums saw my problem and e-mailed me the drivers what a a support team.

I might just skip the r300 and wait for nvidias next gen video cards. since there support obviously rocks


anyone have a dell 8200 with geforce4 440 go and wants the windows 98 drivers you can email nvidias support team or I can email it to you once I get to the office (broadband)

The software support from nvidia came thru. got the windows 98 drivers last night and I am currently double booted 98/xp

all the other drivers from the dell disk works in 98 (sound/lan/modem/chipset for mobo)

let me know if you want me to e-mail it to you its around 6mb compressed file.
