My home town Sweden. You can eat all the sustromy fish pizza all day every day.

Calamari, mussels and shrimp are some of the most amazing things you can eat. But not on a pizza. Just no. You are doing disservice to the seafood and the pizza. It's like banging a hot Victoria's Secret angel, with a bag over her head. It just doesn't make sense.

Used to be any mom and pop pizza joint in Queens NY made phenomenal pizza. I remember in the late 60s and 70s pretty much all pizza shops were great. Back when they used real olive oil and real mozzarella cheese. Not the junk out today. I used to get 2 slices, a can of pepsi and a bag of chips for a buck and it was amazing! Now, they throw the word "Artisan" in the name and charge 5 bucks a slice. Hell, a pie at lombardis cost 30-40 bucks!

I went to Lombardi's last year. Wasn't super impressed (especially for the price). They were cool & let me play with the oven though!

Give me Frank Pepe's any day haha.

WTF is New Haven style pizza? I must find this.

I do like Chicago stuffed or deep dish, but it isn't my favorite. I tend to prefer a proper NY Style "Neopolitan." The best I've had would probably be either in Florence or Rome, with the typical stone oven margherita or with salami and red onions, basil--or the the walk-up, cut off a slice of "sicilian" and go on with your day. Pizza is no frills. It was invented as a way to eat unwanted scrap food. I'll eat a fancy pants pizza with bullshit like grilled chicken or pesto, but I have no desire to seek out such things.

I'm sure this list appeals to artisanal hipsters who want to hype a pedestrian pizza run into something special. I believe the best pizza is always found at 2am in places like Newark or the Bronx and comes with a sense of survival and accomplishment. Long live the pizza rat.

hey, they ship... is that any good? heard about this place. wouldn't mind some authentic deep dish

Luckily i have to go to Chicago a couple times a year to visit a work site, so i always get it fresh in the restaurant. ive been wanting to try buying online, if you do let me know how it taste.

It's pizza. It's great because it doesn't have to be great to be great. Just don't get dominos or little Cesars which I'm pretty sure are made from recycled plastic and chinese newspaper and you are good to go.

i'm reminded of the new york vs chicago pizza war on travel channel. i like both, but last meal i gotta go with chicago. a full pie, what else would you expect from the steak capital. i'll give pastrami to ny (katz's)

San Carlos, CA beats Katz's in NY when it comes to Pastrami.

BTW: NS1's response to this post will be incorrect.

+1 for New Haven. I stop in at Frank Pepe's whenever I'm over in that direction. They just opened another store here in Boston but I haven't been yet ... Usually I stick with Santarpio's.

Langer's > pastrami queen > Katz > a lot of other places > jersey Mike's > san carlos

The lesson here is you never take food advice from mayo hating assholes on the Internet.

It's similar to NY style pizza, but they bake it in a coal-fired oven, so it comes out a little bit more crispy & chewy (but not like thin-crust crispy). There's some other differences too, but that's the biggest one that stands out. A lot of people like it better than NY style. I'm a NY style fan, but if it's GOOD New Haven style (like straight from Pepe's in New Haven) then I prefer that. Either way, I love being a turtle!

Aw man, I thought I set that up easily for you to walk right into a clever response. 🙁

Living in the NYC metro area means we have a ton of pizza joints per capita. But there are plenty of very average ones and a few bad ones mixed in with the good and great. Sometimes I like a traditional NYC pizza, and sometimes a Neapolitan style pie. There are a couple places I've been to that are just amazing.

Sounds like neapolitan pizza.

For those who prefer Neapolitan-type pizza I'd recommend Antico in Atlanta GA. Founded by a family who, IIRC, is from the Amalfi Coast in Italy. They import all of their ingredients from Italy (the flour, the mozza and the tomatoes etc.).

best from my experiences is zachary's in berkeley/oakland, deep dish chicago style. costs as much as a steak house though

What the fuck is that abomination?
I will vouch for Bianco's margherita pizza, AZ and Prince St Pizza, NY.

What? Basil on pizza is great. That's not even debatable.
