I got a notice in the mail today that I think is say I ran a red light in a city I wasn't even close to on that day. There's no picture from the camera, but for citation starts with RR which I believe is the code for a red light camera. I'd just wait until tomorrow to call them, but that court sucks, like being on hold for 1-2 hours *if* you're lucky enough to not get disconnected while waiting sucks. I won't be able to drive out there anytime soon and want to get this corrected asap. I went to photonotice.com and it's asking me for a city code, my "courtesy notice" has no city code anywhere on it, it doesn't even have my license plate #. The city's Moreno Valley CA. I tried the obvious ones to me MVO, MVR & MV. I also googled and was unable to find a list of city codes. The cities web site doesn't seem to have anything either, unless I'm blind. The site I went to has video footage of all citations so it should be easy for me to prove it wasn't my car. I think it's a nice touch the ticket doesn't mention photonotice.com anywhere lol.

That's the violation code, photonotice.com site needs the city code not the violation one. Apparently the state isn't too concerned with making information like this accessible online. I'm sure it's somewhere on one of their web sites, but christ they make it mind numbingly difficult to find anything beyond the most basic info. I'm guessing so a person will give up and pay the ticket even if they know it's not legit. It's $490 if I was to just say f*ck it and pay it. That's OUCH

No photo + no plate = no proof = no fine.

Write a letter to the court asking for the photo and plate number. Nine times out of 10, the cameras miss the plate. I know people who have gotten notices that clearly were not the registered car in the photo. Conduct all corespondance in writing via certified mail.

Or else, say you weren't driving. If you weren't driving the red light camera ticket is unenforcable.

Also, definitely sounds like a phishing scam...though poorly executed, as they don't make it easy to pay, lol.

This is exactly why I want to get the city code because photonotice.com has video of the footage, from my few dealing directly with the So Cal courts in the past. They go out of their way to be as unhelpful as possible, either that or they just hire inept useless people. Even after seeing the video on the web site I'll still have to still call or go in. But maybe if the video's clear enough I can tell them the lics # of the car. I don't expect anyone there to rush to help me prove anything. A screen shot from the site I'm trying to access would be at least something I could take with me to the court to get this thrown out.

I think you hit the nail on the head, I looked at the detachable area and the address listed isn't the court lol. They're getting pretty slick.

Here you go, from the above linked article:

The way to tell the difference is a real ticket will have a notice to appear…a court date and a location. The snitch tickets don’t.

If it doesn't list a court date, ignore it.
