Where to check for Firmware Version?

I just installed a new NEC ND-3500A DVD-RW drive. Where can I check to see what firmware version came with it? Running WinXP.

goto my computer right click on the drive goto propertise settings... it shows for my cd burner but not for my dvd drive. so gl
 
Actually go to device manager>cd/dvd rom>properties>details> then out to the right of your NEC after the _________ ie >IDE/CDROMNEC_________105____56&761098 105 being the Firmware Version 🙂
 
Thank you very much, that is it. I have 2.16 and 2.17 is available. I have never updated the firmware on any drives before. Is it difficult and what does it exactly improve, if anything?

It is not difficult at all just like updating a driver. As far as improvements to the drive you probably will not see any performance increases just more compatibility. The release notes that come with the new firmware version will list what your looking for. 🙂
