I know this isn't the right place to ask and it has been asked before (even by me), but it seems like newegg took it off their site (the chieftech version) while i was waiting for them to restock. Anyone know a cheap place to get this case (with no PSU) with believable shipping prices?

I think Provantage has good prices. My last SX600 was about $31 plus about $16 shipping and the 800 and 1000 weren't a lot more.

Edit: I just looked at Provantage and they aren't currently carrying the 800 or 1000 without PSU

Got my SX 1000 at Provantage about 10 days ago for $37.90 plus $22 shipping, but they no longer list it on their site - they only have the case with power supply listed now.

Provantage still carries the 800, 1000 and 1200 cases under the VAR series heading as of 11:50 AM EST January 3, 2002.

I did some more research at Provantage. Try this URL for VAR series cases at Provantage:

http://www.provantage.com/FP_61577.HTM

The Provantage search engine didn't turn up that web page when I checked earlier today, so that's why I said the SX 1000 was no longer listed there. I did a manual search just now to find the URL. Hope this helps.

Does anyone understand why the SX1000 VAR is cheaper than the SX800 (non-VAR) on the same page? Is the quality not the same, or are there other items, e.g., no fans (which wouldn't be a loss anyway)?

I don't know the answer to your question, although an SX600 I got from them recently came with two, as did an SX1040 I bought some time ago elsewhere. But in any case, I think their case fans are pretty poor. They are certainly noisy. I replaced mine with PCP&C Silencers.

Edit: For what it's worth, if you click on the "click here" link on the Provantage site, it takes you to the VAR Series on the Antec site. If you click on the specs link, it says it comes with two case fans.

The SX 1000 from Provantage comes with two Antec-branded case fans, both mounted at the rear of the case. Based on information on Antec's web site, I believe they are sleeve bearing fans. And they do seem a bit load - I replaced mine with quiter ball bearing fans just today.

I put three Panflow 80 fans in the front fan bays of my SX-800. The positive preasure that these three fans created actually quited the overall sound of the case. With the positive presure in the case the antec fans got a lot quiter. (subjective: 5 fans plus two in power supply = quiter than two antec fans + 2 in power supply)

I'm going to use the stock case fans for now as well as the current fans i have now. Once i sort out my money a little more, i'll buy myself a batch of panaflows.
