Locally, dicks has boxes of remmington for $8.99. A local guy I know sells it for $7.00 a box (different brand).

Are there any good places you guys know of online where I can buy bulk (1000 rds) and get a better price? Ive searched google, and the stuff actually seems to be more expensive online. I've been told it can be had for less than $6 a box though. Any ideas where?

Outdoormarksman.com has sales occaisionally, but I haven't seen anything for less than $6 per box, even when ordered bulk....and at that price it won't be of great quality.

I suppose you could save more money if you pick up your brass and reload. Personally, I'm too lazy for that.

We have a store locally (Georgia) called Academy Sporting Goods and they carry surplus eastern bloc 9mm FMJ ammo. I think they sell it under the store brand "Monarch". 50 rounds will set you back about $3.75 + tax, and they are good quality. I've put about 500 of them through my Beretta 92F and have yet to have a problem. They are fine for target practice and plinking. They are military surplus, so they have a good kick to them. Cheaper powder and primers means you'll get a bit more barrel fouling, so you'll need to clean your gun more frequently.

Blazer makes some aluminum non-reloadable rounds also, but they are about $6.00 a box.

I've been told WalMart is the place for cheap ammo.

Blazer is cheap, but a word of warning: I've gone to ranges that don't allow aluminum casings because they collect and recycle the brass and don't want to have to sort it. I ended up buying the range's expensive ammo because I didn't feel like running around trying to find something else. Just make sure wherever you're firing allows aluminum beforehand.

I have a local place that sells CCI blazer aluminum for 6.50 a box, around 7 bucks after tax.

Walmarts here have winchester white boxes for 15.88 per hundred. Recently went up like a buck.

Start calling local sports stores and gun stores, see if you can find a good place.

Otherwise, Natchezss.com outdoormarksman as mentioned, ammunitiontogo.com ammoman.com. The days of cheap ammo are gone it seems.

pradeep1, I hate you. 3.75 a box? Great price.

Get several brands of ammo... not all brands will shoot out of the same gun with consistent accuracy. Find the brand that works best and stick with that brand. Check the pattern of 5 or 6 shots from a rest... some brands will have tight groups; others won't group as nicely.

What are you using the gun for, other than target shooting? If it's for self defense, wouldn't you feel a bit better knowing you've been practicing with the same brand of ammo?

I have two guns that show a remarkable difference between brands at 50 yards.

Ammoman.com is a good place to buy bulk ammo, his prices are good considering you get free shipping.

Wal-Mart is not bad either, for winchester white box 9mm value packs.

Place near me doesn't allow the winchester white boxes or blazer. Dick's is the lowest I can find locally.

Winchester white box at Walmart or ammoman.com. Ammunitionstore.com, aimsurplus.. I doubt that you'll find any $6 boxes anymore. Brass has been going up over the last year and ammo keeps rising :(

my local Academy has CCI blazer for $6 for a box of 50... last summer that same box was only $3.86...the India and China are hoarding brass and copper supplies so the price of ammo has gone up :(

Running a little low... :)

I bought about 20 boxes and I have three boxes left. Most of my ammo was snapped up by punk friends. Damn punk friends...stealing my cheap ammo. I am like the local arms dealer to my friends. :)

There were a couple of military surplus stores in the Houston, TX, as I recall, that sold reloaded 9mm ammo in those 1000 round tins. I think they were pretty cheap. I had a friend in San Antonio who was telling me about them.

Can anyone from that area confirm this?

True, my local indoor range used to have a policy against aluminum cased ammo before they changed management. Now you can shoot anything.

Anyone reload? How is the economics of that compared to buying factory made cheap ammo?

That's insane. They are $9.99 out here (south of DC).

I re-load all the time. Unless you are going to load up massive quantities of cheap plinking ammo, then I find it is easier to buy something cheap like Wolf for plinking, especially if you can get it cheap. At best you come out a little cheaper in the long run with re-loading, but there is also the time and effort involved.

The ammo that I shoot the most is .223. Most of the time if I am just screwing around I shoot wolf, but anytime I shoot boxer primed brass cased ammo I always keep the brass, so I can run it through my Dillon progressive. If I can crank out 2,000 rounds or so at a time, then re-loading definitely wins. It is nice to be able to control your loads with re-loading, versus just dealing with cheap factory ammo.

All of my specialty ammo (for anything other than shooting dirt) gets re-loaded though.

Also, I wouldn't buy reloaded ammo from a surplus store. I wouldn't trust other peoples work, I've heard to many stories with using reloads from strangers.

dick's is the cheapest i've ever seen around here, maybe followed by wal-mart. haven't seen a dick's ad in the paper in a long time and haven't been there recently so i don't know what their prices are up to now. used to be able to get it for about $7 a box if you bought a case.

Unless you have an Academy you can go to then WWB 100 count from Walmart is going to be as cheap as it gets. Unfortunately like was mentioned it just went up about $1 in the last month or so.

I think it's a conspiracy. The gov't listened to Chris Rock and now they're following through with his idea:

I think we need some bullet control. I think every bullet should cost five thousand dollars. Five thousand dollars for a bullet. Know why? Cos if a bullet cost five thousand dollars, there'd be no more innocent by-standers. That'd be it. Some guy'd be shot you'd be all 'Damn, he must've done something, he's got fifty thousand dollars worth of bullets in his ass!' And people'd think before they shot someone 'Man I will blow your f**king head off, if I could afford it. I'm gonna get me a second job, start saving up, and you a dead man. You'd better hope I don't get no bullets on lay-away!' And even if you get shot you wouldn't need to go to the emergency room. Whoever shot you'd take their bullet back. 'I believe you got my property?'

Several places have tried to create a bullet tax, up to as much a 10 cents a bullet. Talk about crappy legislation. Luckily it hasn't passed anywhere that I know of.

Back door "gun control". California actually proposed that each round (casing and bullet) be marked with unique serial numbers in order to be legally sold in CA (never passed though).
