Where to buy a single air filter online?

I have an unusual sized air filter (12x16x1) and I don't like the cut-to-fit filters I found at Home Depot.

I've found several online places but they all want you to buy a 6 or 12 pack. I just want one.

Any suggestions for a store?

Is the air filter on a A/C unit?

If so make sure you pay extra for the mouse proof version.

Why just 1? Are you planning to move soon? Go ahead and buy 6. That'll give you a year's supply.

I couldn't find any on Lowe's site either. Maybe check with the local hardware store. They'll probably special order you one. You won't have to pay shipping either. It'll just come in on their next truck. Don't forget about the little guys!

There is nothing wrong with cut to fit as long as you are capable of cutting it to actually fit. 😉

Well, the fact that I could easily slide a piece of spaghetti through it makes me worried about its filtering abilities.

I was more concerned about the smaller-than-spaghetti particulates in the air.

I used to use a fancy filter on my A/C. It froze up one time though and the A/C man just said to use the cheap ones. The fancy ones are too restrictive and cause the A/C to work too hard to pull the air in.

If your local hardware store doesn't have them or can't order them quick enough, the next stop would be an HVAC wholesale supply. Although if the size is that strange, they probably don't have it either. However, they'd probably be able to order it faster.

As other have also said, order the d*mn multi-pack.

Cut to fit is fine and if you need to improve catch use a spray designed to make it more effective at your target pollutant.

You can also install an electrostatic air cleaner in your return plenum. Beware of deep pleated competitors such as space gard. These are very efficient HEPA grade media BUT put a LOT of restriction on your air handler and if your duct/blower is not designed for this you could have trouble with overheating (gas/oil) heat exchangers, high limit lockouts on resistance heaters, high head pressure lockouts (heat pumps) or freezing a-coils in the summer. HVAC stuff is fun isn't it? 😉
