My problem is trying to find a raid ddr mobo w/ the amd 761 chipset. I heard the epox board was supposed to be decent, and cheaper. But i'm not sure about epox.

I'm going with the GA-7DXR myself, since it's one of only four mobos that AMD recommends for use with the Athlon, and it's what they use on their own sample systems (can there be any higher recommendation than that? I think not.) I've been having a great experience with another Gigabyte board (a GA-BX2000) for well over 2 years now, so I'm not worried about the quality. Correction <sigh>: Technically, AMD uses the GA-7DX, not the GA-7DXR.

Anyhoo, as far as where to buy a GA-7DXR, please see my response in this thread, dated Thursday, June 28, 2001 6:48 AM.

cruelpsycho, the original poster already checked pricewatch. :)

OK, here's where I just bought my GA-7DXR: Envision Computer Solutions. I can recommend them without hesitation, having read their glowing rating on resellerratings.com, and also because I just had a very good experience with them. Todd Keller (I think he owns ECS, but he's at least a sales/service rep) went out of his way to help me, even reserving the last-remaining GA-7DXR board for me on nothing but my word. Then, when I added some Corsair memory to my order, he charged me an unadvertised, lower price for it, which saved me a few bucks. Sure, things could still go wrong with my order, but I'm not worried about it.

Todd said the GA-7DXR boards have been flying off their shelves. If you call them (888-381-7347) or email them, I'm sure they'll be totally honest as to when new GA-7DXR boards will arrive. I have nowhere near this degree of certainty with any other retailer, at least not on this item. Give them a shot!

<< Yikes, a 200+ $$$ mobo! >>

Yep, it's an expensive ah heck, but it's also a very good ah heck. A lot of the current Socket A boards are right up there in price; for example, the Asus A7A266 goes for $165-180. An additional $35 doesn't phase me.

Well according to PcStop they should have them on the 29th. Which is tomorrow, i just checked Ingram Micro's web site, and they have a total of about 35 on order between 4 warehouses. But I know for a fact that alot more people are waiting for them. D & H said that the should have them in stock some time next week, and they were $10 cheaper than Ingram Micro but IM said that could ship it Friday, so I went w/ them.

I also got an email from A2Z Computers Online stating that there was a problem w/ the chipset and that GigaByte recalled them. I think they all are full of $hit and are just trying to cover their @ss by coming up with this BS.

Well, if people are not phased by paying that much for them, then I might stock some. :)

I've been hunting for this board for a week now, and just from perusing the forums (AMDMB.com's Gigabyte forum and AnandTech) I can tell that there is an enourmous demand for this board. If you could get them in then I'm sure you'd have no problems selling them. Good luck. :)

Thanks newz54! I tried ordering from them last night but they kept denying my credit card; this morning everything went through just fine. One question though, did you get a retail or an OEM board? It doesn't say on their website, but I don't mind too much either way.

It is amazing, isn't it wiz! Keeps a lot of those shyster venders in biz...They lock in buyers with promises of items, at high prices, they don't have in stock, and then make interest by charging the buyer's credit cards.. Let's see, what quote is PT Barnum most famous for?

Well, bevo, I know this isn't your quote, but you picked right up on it. I can assure you that I did not give my business to a "shyster". I also held back on ordering until I knew one was in stock (and no, I don't think Envision CS lied to me). Which brings us to the relatively high price--as has been pointed out already, the GA-7DXR board are flying off the shelves, so of course that makes it a sellers' market. That's just how things work. As for whether or not I'm a "sucker", well, I think not, because I paid a price I was willing to pay for something I really wanted. And if that does make me a sucker, then by your definition we all are; unless, of course, you've never purchased an item whose price reflected the influences of supply and demand.
