Does it not matter what type of cap it is?

for large A/C motors, there is generally only 1 type.. Oil Filled Metallized Polypropylene. For large analog motors, all that is necessary is to simply match the Voltage and MFD.

Brilliant...autism delivers!

I still know what "antisocial" means, unlike you who are under the impression that it means, "mean." And it ain't something I can translate for you.
But here's a news flash: One can be mean for social reasons. In fact, that is typically the case.

But that's going right over your head.

It appears the capacitor on my pool pump has gone bad and I'm in need of one before the end of this week so I can open my pool this weekend. Problem is, I have no idea where to buy one. Does anyone have a good site that sells this kind of stuff and is reliable?

Rat Shack would be the best bet if you don't want to wait.

Radio Shack?!? LOL!

They sell consumer electronics, not electrical components (anymore).
I am willing to bet my LIFE that they do not have the component he needs, in stock.

They have a few hundred components in stock... They can order many things, but why go through them when you can get exactly what you want from Digikey, Mouser, Newark, etc?

Another is http://www.alliedelec.com/
They have more "electrical" and less "electronic".
They probably have larger motor type capacitors.

RS never carried large appliance type caps but they do still carry PCB components.

Hehe, it's funny how almost every thread has an argument/debate intertwined with it.
At least we only have arguments here in OT. P&N is where you go for abuse.
And the mods can give private getting-hit-on-the-head lessons.

No it doesn't. I am right and you are wrong.

😉

And I didn't mean the debate over the capacitors and stores to get them at, I meant the google search comment and argument, relevant debates make sense.

Yeah... they still sell resistors and capacitors from the web site, believe it or not.

I remember the good days of RS. When you could buy transformers, pcb making supplies, crystals for radios, even speech synthesizer IC chips, and just about anything else you needed. Now they have cut back on that so much I never use them.

yeah and if this is a large can ( think soda can ) type capacitor try a local HVAC shop. digikey/mouser/goldmine/allelectronics aren't going to carry those. you can find them online but they're a little harder to find and even harder to get a good price on

This, when my start/run cap exploded last summer I got one local for $7.50 and was back up and running in 1/2 hour..
