I really don't recommend a computer nerd get into a sport like ATV.

What will most likely happen is on your first outing you will flip the vehicle and get crushed.

It wasn't my first outing. I wrecked mine on the 4th outing. I didn't take any chances on my sport quad but I got overconfident on the big utility I had. It could go thru anything, but I just was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'm renting a side by side for the next couple days. Renting is expensive but still cheap compared to buying one. Even used, the prices are insane. I took an ATV class once and decided right there and then that side by sides were better for me.


Edit: maybe especially used prices are insane. I've seen used prices within a couple hundred bucks of new.

Get a 1200 instead. Always over-engineer everything.

They aren't cheap. The nearest ATV rental shop for me was $60/day for an ATV and $125 for an SxS. This was 2 years ago, but when I looked last week the ATV was up to $200/day (!!!) and the SxS was no longer available.

Chalk that up to idiots who took it out, beat the thing to death and returned it with damage that didn't show up in a quick inspection of the vehicle.

new? you don't have a dealer near you? there's a ton within 30 miles of me.

Motorcycle dealerships frequently carry them. Never seen them at a car dealership.

As you move closer to the country you will.
Honda dealerships in particular are keen to stock Honda ATV's.
