Where to buy 1800 Tbred rev B + Question on cooling it

Ok I've sifted through the huge amount of articles regarding the overclocking of rev B Tbreds for the 1700, 1800 and 2100. Sorry for posting what is essentially an allready crowded topic but i have a limiteded amount of time here in the US as I wiill go back to the UK beggining of Feb.

I was hoping one of you Anandtech forum guys might tell me who is selling the 1800XP tb rev B chips. Ive gone through the OC.com article and the ones on New Egg are rev A's. I don't trust ebay for something as specific as that and ive gone through things like googlegear etc.... still no rev B's

Where can i actually get hold of one of these chips, reviews of them are everywhere but i don't know where to buy the chip.

As a side not i have purchased the Epox 8RDA+ and 2 sticks of 512mb pc2700 RAM. All i need now is the heatsink and CPU *I have other components back in UK WD 120GB 8mb buffer etc....*

From the reviews 1800+ seems to be best value for $ to OC value. And im now a little strapped for cash so although the 2100 is tempting I really would prefer the 1800. As for heatsinks i was thinking of the SK800. What i wanted to know though is if i get a low RPM 80mm fan for it will i still be able to overclock to a decent level on the 1800+. I don't want to hit any fresholds on it 2.1 ghz stable would be nice though. Sorry i know its a lot of questions in one post, hope someone can help

newegg.com is the place to go
i buy from them all the time

I just got me a 1700+ T-bred b and have it running at 2ghz with less than 1.8v (it can go higher but my motherboard holds me back)
the slk-800 is also sold there for a good price
and if you can't decide on what speed/type fan to get then just get a variable speed one
i got an slk-800 with an 80mm enermax adjustable speed fan ($7)
works great for me

have fun

I got my 1700+ to 2.3gHz with a SLK-800 / panaflo L1A combo.

92mm Panaflo medium has got me up to 2.35gHz...

If that helps... the 92mm fan is pretty quiet for moving 55cfm or so.

Thanks guys, sounds like the 1700+ will do for me then i guess :). (who am i kidding thats a ridiuclous overclock guess im being greedy ;))

Ill get that Heatsink as well, just hope everything works before i go back to the UK. And on a side note,
does anyone know the best way of safely getting this hardware through the Airport scanners without frying all my lovely new purchases :)

Don't want to get home with a big pile of non working hardware that would really suck

Ok i ordered my new Tbred today from Newegg today the 1700. The picture shows a rev A version on their site but ill let you know what it actually is when i receive it. With a bit of luck it should be a rev B but then hmm even if its an A they can still go up to 2ghz right??

As for the SLK-800 well its out of stock at Newegg.com. Do you know of any other good sites where they might have one in stock for a reasonable price.

As for taking stuff through the Airport im going to ringnd check i think just in case. Ill post what they say to me just for future reference. And ill update later as to what ACTUALLY happens. Ill probably just give to the guy at the scanner open so that he can look at it and check its not a bomb or anything *that happened to my friend which is why im worried. He couldn't get his notebook to start up when leaving Canada so they confiscated it thinking it might be a bomb. Cost him $400 to get the thing back.

Anyways thanks for the help

Happy overclocking :)

Thanks for the link on that heatsink thats a great price. Now as for the fan. Ive never used a heat sink that size before. One of the reasons i got it was to overclock but not to a crazy amount. I don't really want to make a lot of noise as noise really irritates me. So i know its an awkward balance but if i get a quiet fan with this then will i still be able to overclock the 1700+ rev B to around 2ghz and keep the noise low??

I live in Scotland so the room temperature is generally cold as well anyway lol. Seems to help....

Any thoughts on a decent quiet fan to go with this heat sink

Thanks for all the help guys, gives me 1 more reason to love the Anandtech site :)
I read these threads at least twice a day now :)

And if anyone is interested ill be building one of those Nforce2 Shuttle XPC's soon so i can run a few benches on it if anyone is interested .....

Y.S.Tech speed control fan. It does about 48cfm max (a pretty quiet 48cfm i might add) and it has a speed control rheostat so you can adjust it from a high of 3500 rpm doen to they claim 800 rpm although my experience says the low end is more like 1500 rpm.

Same here I am waiting to get some $$$ and then I am getting a 2100+. IT seems that the 3000 will be out soon and I do believe that it is a barton. Either way itwill drive AMD prices down. So the 1700 might just disappear altogether but the 1800 should almost be under 50$. The 2100 could fall all the way down to 80 even further!

Yah, I use a variable speed fan too (TT Dumb Fan 2), unfortunately right now its not variable ;) It will be once I hook up this Rheobus. Flexibility is a good thing, otherwise you could go with a lower set-speed fan. There have been good results with the highly regarded low-rpm fans like the Panaflo L1A, Vantec Stealth, and to a lesser degree the NMBs. Also, make sure that heatsink is compatible with your mobo. Its much smaller than my 8045, so it should be OK, but small form factors like that Shuttle XPC I don't know about. MichaelD has gotten good results with just a Panaflo L1A and an AX-7. Check his results in the 2100+ OCing thread (400+ results) or PM him.

Ok i ordered the SLK-800 and the YS Tech 80mm Variable fan :)

Both were on sale so cost me less than $40 :) Thats about half what i would pay on the cheapest site in the UK. Thanks again guys

Oh and Chiz, when i was talking about the XPC that is for a friend not my system. Ill just be using the standard heat pipe on that machine. The Thermaltake is for my new Epox 8RDA+ :) :)

Happy overclocking days are here :)

SLK-800 is like the best of the best :) that's all you need to know

True, SLK-800 is the king of the hill. Mine is paired with a Sunon 50CFM fan and I couldn't be happier (well, unless somebody gave me a Vapochill or nice watercooling rig... seems unlikely to me though)
