Hello, I am looking to buy 2 Areca 16-port (or maybe 24) PCIe controller cards. (Areca ARC-1260). Theese however are very expensive here in norway becuase they are not a mainstrem product. However, a friend of mine is gonig to San Francisco this month, and I'm looking for a good place to get a hold of theese cards. Either in San francisco, or by mail order (they must except a credit card if it is mail-order). Does anybody have a good suggestion? Price is of course important, but it would be nice with a reputable dealer, so I can sort it out if something happens to be wrong with the cards.

And newegg is a good/cheap dealer? I see the only have the 16-port version, are there any other good alternatives which might have the 24-porter? (ARC-1280ML)

Use froogle.google.com and you'll get several hits for just about anything that you look up. I didn't see any other top resellers (Newegg is the top online computer equipment reseller in the US AFAIK) anywhere near Newegg's price. Quite a few smaller fry.

Isn't socialism the shiznits - not conducive to a robust retail sector...

Only two places on Froogle claim to have the 1280 in stock in the vicinity of $1600. US dollars... I'd buy a 1260 and a smaller one (or maybe two 12-port units) instead then you'd have a modicum of redundancy so perhaps you could limp along until you can have another shipped in...

I found some Areca at Provantage.com and CDW.com, but not the 1280. I suppose most that stock the 1260 could get the 1280 on special order. I suppose those are pretty rarefied even for those big corporate suppliers. Buy.com claims to sell for $1412.00 shipped for free when it's in stock - currently OOS.

Those guys at Flickerdown are helpful. My Areca's were not purchased through them and they still answered a question I had regarding LED headers.

I will make sure my purchasing folks consider buying from them in the future. Areca IOP341 based SAS hosts are coming this summer. :D
