Cheapo frames will work fine, but you might want to try a mattress store for a good pad thingy.

I haven't seen a B&M where I can get just a frame. Do mattress stores sell frames too? I didn't think of going there.

I went to a Verlo matress store and they sold frames and matresses individually.

honestly, I looked at futons when I was furnishing my apartment, and I found a decent one to be overpriced. If you are looking for cheap, good furniture, try going to furniture rental places, like Aaron's Rents, and ask to see their sales or clearance section. I got my furniture from there, and it was crazy cheap and acutally pretty nice.

Depending on where you're at I would check this place, Norka Futon, I never realized there was more to the futon industry than walmart/target. My roommate got a cheap one from there and the mattress was useless within 4-5 months, and just bought a $200 mattress at that store, and its a world of difference. I'm considering going to a futon for my room next year so that I have more usable space.

DO NOT get a cheap futon as you will regret it when the mattress fails on you.

If you get a futon, make sure you get one with springs. I had the typical black metal frame futon in college which I got for around $100 at shopko or k-mart. My parents spent a little more (close to $300 probably) and got a nice wood framed futon with a nice mattress which has springs for their guestroom and it is much nicer to sleep on than any other futon I've been on.

If you have a Value City in your area, check there.

For all people saying to spend more money for a better one... if he's looking to replace it in a few months when he has cash flow, why spend twice as much on an item that he probably won't use often? He said it's for his living room... not his permanent bed.

I mean, yeah, it'd be great to have a nice "guest bed", but when you're talking double the price, it's saying a lot for an item that (I assume) would only get it's usage a few times a month at best.

I wqanted something cheap because it was going to be a couch until I have money for a full living room set. Then it was going into the second bedroom/computer room.

Exactly. I went to Value City, and their frames are all around $200 for a cheap one... plus the pad.
