Where should I go to have my taxes done?

I've just done Turbotax in the past because everything was pretty cut and dry. Now I'll need to clarify some things to potentially save myself thousands. I was wondering if I should find an independent accountant or go to HR BLock or some service like that and let some staffer handle it. What are the costs and benefits of each?

Don't do Block, they don't care if you get all the credits. Get an accountant and be prepared to spend $100.00-$200.00

Yeah I wouldn't go to HR Block. I'm sure you can go to them and find competent people, perhaps at more than regular cost, but their standard joes know less about taxes than me. And I know nothing!

I'd say go to an independent tax accountant. It's a lot more personal I believe most are cheaper. I intern at a small tax accounting firm and we charge by page when preparing an invoice for a tax return.

If it's simple, do it online for do a 1040ez. Otherwise, find a tax accountant. If you are lucky, you can find an accountant that charges per form.

Anywhere but H&R block or any other chain. They are trained not to get you the most $$ but to get them the most $$. BTW, the cost of having your taxes done is tax deductible.

Never thought of that. I could probably have some white-collar criminal do it for a packet of cigs. Hmm...
