Depends how long he plans on staying. If its more than a couple weeks the exchange rate definitely favors a US trip even with the more expensive flight.

but if he's using Ryan Air to fly within Europe...the possible $20 round trip to Ireland trumps any savings you would achieve visiting the US.

I've been to neither, but from reviews and first-hand accounts, I'd take New Zealand over Ireland in this category. nothing against Ireland...but lack of mountains and such

It's true, Ireland isn't very mountainous, but it's gorgeous. Where else can you go that's lush and green, the people are amazingly friendly, the food is fresh and the beer is never ending (for those of you who enjoy it). Plus, where the heck are you going to go where you're going to be driving by an actual castle like every 20 minutes? It's breathtaking.

Well, being that you are from Denmark, I would suggest visiting the US. NY, NY could be interesting. Hell, I live in the States and have only been to NY, NY once. I'd like to visit it again.

I live in Other Place, NY and have never been to New York City. But I HAVE been to Ireland. Kind of backwards.

The question is over how much time though. For the same money he could potentially do a lot more here.

The krone is pegged to the Euro, so the cheap dollar benefits Danes as well.

1st: Ireland - Cheapish, good scenery although you can easily find similar in say Scotland, booze and a good night life
2nd: US - Price is definitely a good thing at the moment for tourists
3rd: S.England, sadly most of the good things to do are too expensive
