What place has the best price/is available.

Or if it isn't available anywhere, where should I look for them to have it in the soonest???

Most sites say Availablity: Call

I've called of those and nobody answer.

Thanks

Yep, it's gonna be a couple weeks before these are commonly available but the upside is that the price gouging should stop then. ;)

hehehhehhe. Ever hear of supply and demand? Dell is a huge company and you better bet they are going to take as many of the conroe chips as they can. My guess is if you want a cheap conroe system head to Dell. I could be wrong though I guess; I'm just preparing for the worst. If the chips come out to what intel prices them at then all the better, just don't plan on it.

Ya I wouldn't want a Dell either but if you want cheap conroe this year I suspect Dell will have them. I seriously expect the conroe's price to jake up once they come out.

I bought an E6600 (preorder) at www.tankguys and paid 340.00 for it...that is only 24.00 dollars off of the price of 316.00 listed except this was also a retail box cpu...those lower prices are usually oem prices per quantities of 1000...get your preorder in and i am sure you will get one before the end of August...

Ya I guess I wasn't thinking of the preorders. I do hope you get yours before August. There will be alot of angry people if the supply dries up.

I'm willing to bet that all of these pre-orders will get cancelled once Dell and HP buy up all of the Conroe supplies. It seems that no one believes AT when they speak of supply constraints and price increases on the Conroes but those same people believe AT's Conroe benchmarks. I think the only Conroe owners are going to be those first people that bought the Conroe EE's at least until the end of the year.

That's silly talk. Availability has yet to be seen as the official date hasn't even come yet. It may be low at first but will come on in time if so, and it will not be nonexistatn. YOu are talking a half a year away.

I ordered my E6600 from Buy.com within a day or two of them posting the SKU.

Since Buy.com = Ingram Micro I'm hoping they be among the first to ship.

It looks like they raised price about $10 since my order was placed.

I also pre-ordered the e6600 from Buy.com, but it looks like they're not taking orders for it anymore. Could this mean that they won't be able to fulfill their current orders?

Rumor has it that Intel wasn't happy with all the pre-ordering and reseller's links to disti's inventory systems. (probably because it caused double ordering and other chaos in the channel). They told the resellers to remove the links and told distis not to accept new stocking orders until the 27th.

Will the existing orders be grandfathered in and be among the first to ship??? That's anyone's guess. I also have no idea how Intel and the distis will allocated initial stock. (I'm guessing it'll be proportioned based on a reseller's past sales history with boxed CPUs. It could also be based on FIFO but I doubt it. Or it could be a preset max. order qty for every reseller.)

Anyone in the disti channel have any additional insight??

Intel's one of the biggest companies in the world, I'm sure there won't be avaiability problems with their next-generation chips...
