Where should I be worried?

hey all

I recently installed my old 2.4ghz prescott into an equally old m-ATX case I have lying around and remembered how hot the Prescotts got.

MBM reports around 53-56 cel most of the time with temps getting around 60 at other times. Typically I have my cpu's running around 40 depending on model and conditions, but I really don't think there is much more I can do for this CPU cooling wise. The case is cramped but I have it set up he best I can with rounded cables tucked away, an adequate airflow path from intake to out, and AS3 between CPU and stock cooling fan.

I'd replace the stock fan but it was adequate before and I'm not sure how much difference a new one would make given the situation with the small case.

Should I be worried? What do you think is the upper limit for these Prescott CPU's. Google came back with around 60, but also said that was the absolute upper limit.

TIA

72c is where they start to throttle, so as long as it's under 72c you should be fine. 72c or higher, and you are going to throttle and lose a lot of performance.

Righto...ok, I haven't observed the temps go above the low 60's....thanks fo rth einfo.

I'm going to try moving the entire setup to someplace a little more ventilated and see how that works out.

You can't stop TM1 throttling. It's built in to the CPU. You can disable TM2 throttling from the bios, but you can not disable TM1 throttling period.

Temps in the low 60's are actualy pretty normal for a prescott, especialy for the stock heatsink, so I wouldn't even worry about it.
