Hello,
This question has been bugging me for a while now. I apologize in advance if this sounds like a vent post, but I would certainly like some information or suggestions. The slew of new IPS LCD releases have all been wide and wider gamut. Color Management is a pain. I'm sure most of you would agree. I do mostly web development, so wide gamut is pretty useless for me. Sure I can see more colors in my photos, but once it gets thrown on the web, I have to set it to sRGB or non-color-managed apps will screw it up.
So I know about the NEC 2490. Unfortunately, being in the US, the Hazro's are out of the question. That leaves .... nothing? Are companies even researching newer sRGB panels anymore? Or am I just waiting for something that will never come.. Don't get me wrong, the 2490 is an awesome LCD, and despite its shortcomings for gaming and its high price tag, I would've gone for it, except for the fact that it is severely lacking in the inputs department.
I had high hopes for the new HP LP2475w when it was announced.. I thought "Yes! A competitor for the 2490!" ..Not so, unfortunately. It, too, is wide gamut, and with very saturated reds for that matter. If only it used the same panel as the 2490, I would've snapped it up immediately. Will we ever get a nice sRGB panel with as many inputs as that new HP?
I considered asking NEC and HP to see if they would make such a panel, but of course, I was on hold forever lol, so I gave up on that.
What are my options anyway, as far as sRGB IPS panels go? I'm not exactly in dire need of it, but my 17" Samsung TN is starting to piss me off since I invested in a decent camera. I'm also looking at the 1920 resolution for these panels. I figure if I'm going to upgrade, I might as well go all the way and be able to watch HD content.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, and thanks in advance for any input.
