I think we're going to settle for hanging the cheapest possible decorations along the halls and switching the candy bowls over to mints and chocolate santas.

We used to have fairly cool christmas parties in the evening were you could bring your spouse or 1-guest-whoever that was. Ove the years we had it at the Nixon library, Long Beach Aquarium, Disneyland hotel, etc.. It was really nice with food, music, dancing drinks etc. They then stopped them to cut costs. Now we have a Department Christmas party in the middle of the day at a offsite location. We then have a white elephant gift exchange that or VP gets all fired up about. After the fourth year of this, it is really starting to get irritating. The same crappy jokes etc. I am about ready to put something really interesting as the white elephant gift IE box of gun ammo or a gift certificate to a online sex shop like "The Stockroom". I was hoping that because of the re-organization that I would finally escape this ritual. We have a new VP that is on the other coast. Nope we have to go to the same crappy party in the middle of the day with a VP that we no longer report to. I would rather have the afternoon off. Oh well smile and wave, we are happy office drones.
 
Public Company -

We have a finance department wide Thanksgiving Potluck at work - last week.

Next week we have a 200 person CFO/CIO team Xmas party with open bar + buffet dinner from 6-11pm.

In Feb we have a +1 Company wide (local office) Xmas party - its tradition to do it the 1st week of Feb. Usually a live band or two and a DJ plus open bar and buffet food spread throughout the venue.

I can guarantee my 1966 Mustang GT would get more seat time than your 2006.

Ours is at the Puritan Ballroom in Manchester NH. Good local joint. Awesome drinks and chicken fingers. Highlight of the evening will be the karaoke. Always is. This year a couple of my coworkers and I have choreographed a couple of songs. Should be a good time once the drinks start flowing.

we have been advised that since our company doesn't do anything like the others, our party will be in january...in other words, we're too poor to do a christmas party and we'll try to swing something next year, but we probably won't.
