Where is the x800 xt for $299

You mean the XL..PCI-E only, pretty much only paper launched right now, and if ATi's past year has been any indication, it won't be available for a while. This card could be the Ti4200 of 2005, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

Yeah, its probably just a marketing ploy to make people hold up on buying 6800GT's for as long as people are willing to wait for it. Nvidia sales go down in anticipation of the new card that never surfaces.
Nvidia reports lost revenues in its quarterly statements and make ATI's look not so bad in comparison.
This is the very same thing ATI did with the X700XT.

If ATI actually delivers this X800XL in REAL quantity at it's 300.00 MSRP, it will be amazing judging by their recent behavior.

I don't see how launching a PCIe card that isn't available leaves AGP users in the dust anymore than PCIe users. Just my $.02...
