Anyone know where those files are or what extensions they are? Any help would be appreciated.

To the poll: the original Quake's soundtrack is my favorite because its dark and eery sense went with the theme of the game almost perfectly IMO. Quake 2's soundtrack is awesome as well, it also matched the theme of the second establishment, but I still like Quake's better :)

To your question: the music is in redbook audio, meaning you can play it in any CD player. In order to get the music into a format your computer can use, you must use a ripping program such as Exact Audio Copy or CDex.

Been a few years, but they are inside the .pk2 files I believe. Probably regular .wav files since I don't think they used mp3 back then... Just open each pk2 file, sort by size, and those huge .wav's are probably it. Also, the pk2 files are nicely sorted, so you will have all the music under a directory called something like "music" or maybe "sounds"...

Quake2's music is stored in regular CD-Audio format (means you can play them in any CD-player, just don't play track 1!)
