Where is the feedback coming from?

Ok guys, hit me with your best on this one. I am using an ASUS A7M266 board w/ audio. I also have a Hercules MUSE XL sound card. I have disabled the onboard audio both through the bios and the jumper. Whenever I use voice communications (ie. Sidewinder Game Voice, Roger Wilco, Messenger Voice or even Dialpad) the recepient receives a lot of feedback. Usually they will hear themselves as an echo or they will pick up on sounds that should only be heard by myself through the game play. I am using headphones so it isn't coming from the speakers.
I have even attempted to resolve the problem by pulling the sound card from the system and running with just the onboard audio. Same problem occurs. So I think I have narrowed it down to the motherboard. But why?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Have you gone through all your sound settings to check for "Echo", line In, etc.? It could be that something is enabled or muted there that shouldn't be. Also, make double sure of where you plug your speakers and Mic in. Also, did you by chance enable the four speaker option by mistake? That would confuse things. Have you tried another audio cable?

You might try enableing the on-board sound again and changing the cable from the CD Audio plug on the MB to the AUX plug next to it. I was having some problems with on-board sound with the same MB and that cured my problem. Hope this helps. Good luck.
