Getting a CMOS error on a used mobo I recently picked up. The post code indicates to check the R/W (read/write)? functionality of the CMOS. Is the area the CMOS info is stored physically part of the BIOS chip or is it somewhere else? Hoping that if I change the BIOS chip I can correct the problem.
At this point, I don't think its wise to change the physical bios chip. It can be done, but there are dangers involved here. Instead, clear your cmos. Get your mobo manual (its online if you can't find it) and refer to it as to how its done. Usually, there is a jumper close to the cmos battery that will clear it. You'll want to turn your system off and unplug it from its power source. Switch the jumper to the ones specified in your mobo manual and then move it back to its original position. This will clear cmos. Afterwards, you will have to reset your bios information ..... you should get a prompt on boot up to access "setup." If you're unsure what values to change things to in your bios, choose "failsafe" set up for now and we can help you fine tune it later.
Lets try the easy things that have worked for many before we try changing out your bios chip.
