How much longer do we have to wait? Any news on these? What is the clock speed of the first ones to come out?

The Palomino core is already 3 months late. I'd say it's out to pasture until May/June/July...
Maybe we see Morgan first (Duron)
The core primary addresses power consumption and branch prediction.

I think I saw something that said the core was cool to the touch. The core was incased in pure silicon as opposed to ceramic. That is awesome. If it is true, then this would be well...AWESOME.
 
if the core is really that cool for us to touch it, then I guess we will not need those NOISY fan ever again.
 
AMD is pulling a 3DFX like when they announced the V5-6000 months before....actually it never hit the market. They better be careful, their pissing off their customers.

A 0.13-micron processor called Thoroughbred will sample in Q4 '01. A value segment version called Appaloosa will sample in Q1 '02.

Ruiz said the first eighth-generation 64-bit Hammer series processor, called ClawHammer for one-or-two-way processors, will sample in Q4 '01 and enter production in the first quarter of 2002.

The story was about how AMD is delaying the 1.3GHz Thunderbird because current 1.1 and 1.2 GHz chips are fast enough to compete with Intel. 🙁 Could they be delaying due to technical problems???
 
AMD had expected that the P4 was going to be more of a challenge than it is. The first Palomino core should show up in the mobile Athlons coming out this month.
 
Palominos will require a new motherboard and chipset right? Should be able to use the same case, though, I would think? I ask because the P4 requires a new atx form factor making many existing cases obsolete. Would not want to see AMD go that route...
 
kt133a mobos should fit the palomino just fine. since its the same bus it shouldn't require new chipsets. the a7v133 may not have the proper power regulator for the 1.5GHz CPUs, though.

It'll take longer than a month to go from entering production, to them becoming available.
