Ok, I got a full time job this summer and hope to have at least $3,000 saved up by the end of the summer to buy a sweet computer just in time for school. I live in San Diego, California and the only place I know of that sells individual computer parts is Fry's Electronics. After having horrible expiriences with their hardware and tech support I am never going back there again. So if anyone knows of a good place that has a big selection of computer parts and all the newest stuff other than Comp USSR and Fried Electronics please reply.

Probably the best all-around place is newegg.com. I have always had great service from them. Also have had great RMA service.

Not UCDweb.com - I hope that narrows the field :)

Seriously...I hear mwave is good, though I've never used it.

I forgot to say that I don't want to order online. Delieveries are a hassle for me because no one is ever home to sign for it so it always ends up at some post office and I also don't want to run the risk of having everything shipped back because it wasn't signed for.

<< newegg will leave it at your door. >>

That's the thing though. There is a gate that has to be open for them to get to my door and we can't leave it open or else my dog will get out.

Mwave which is highly recommended is in LA (Rowland Heights). You can place your order online then pick it up at their Will Call desk if you want.

What I have done in the past to avoid delivery problems and dishonest online companies is this. I put together a list of the things that I want to buy. Then I go to pricewatch and jot down the lowest prices that I see. Then I go to a local computer parts store and haggle the sh!t out of em! They usually say that the price you see on pricewatch is their cost but that's usually a lie. I like buying all of my parts from the same company that way you aren't losing track of where you bought what and so on. Plus that way you only have to deal with one sales/tech/manager person if something goes wrong. Also, you never know if the people off of the web are going to speak english! So go to pricewatch. List your parts at the lowest price. Go to local store that will get closest to those prices. Hell, they may even want to put it together for you for a small fee. That way you don't have to worry about screwing anything up!

If you buy from a retail store chances are that you will end up spending over 300 dollars extra on a system rather than purchasing parts over the internet. If I were you just order the parts online, select something like 2nd day shipping, and stay home and wait for them. Most delivery services will try to deliver your package twice before sending it back that leaves you will quite a few days to pick it up.

I ordered all of my computer parts from Thompson's Computer Warehouse. Check there Reseller Rating, its quite good.

Buy your stuff online and have them ship it to your work. Unless your boss has big issues with this, it'll allow you to sign for all your stuff, and not have to worry about leaving it at the door/picking it up at the post office. Only problem might be getting a 19 or 21 inch monitor, cause then you'de have to move it from work back to your house.
