Where is a cheap place to get an oil change in the USA?

Hey guys,

Gonna be road tripping in the US pretty soon, and was wondering where is the best place price wise to get an oil change?

In Canada for example, you can buy your own oil/filter, and get it changed for 15 bucks at Canadian Tire.

Just want to get ready as I will need one when I'm down there. Don't want to get raped and pay $ 80 at a Mr. Lube or something...

Well I will usually pick up a jug of synthetic oil (4.4 liters) for around 25 bucks (on special). Oil filter another 7 bucks.

Let's say $ 50 all in for the oil change when I provide my own filter/oil.

Yea I just did an oil change on my driveway, but will need another one when I'm on the trip.

If you shop at Kroger, check out the back of any receipt. They all have a coupon for a 22-point inspection/oil change for $16.99 at Merchants Tire.

Many establishments such as Walmart honor these competitors coupons. I usually just go to Walmart since Merchants is so busy all the time. (Yeah yeah I know, Walmart = ewww)

Of course this depends on you having Kroger/Merchants local to you. YMMV

Trip is around 14,000 km. My oil changes come every 8 k km.

Thanks I will check out Kroger/Wal-Mart.

I think my local walmart is normally $30 for a standard but not sure. Anyway, damn that is a long trip the gas money will blow out of the water any concerns about oil change 😉

Gas money is going to be like 1 to 1.2 k.

Driving from Coast to Coast and then back?

Driving from Toronto - Vancouver - San Diego (along the PCH). Was planning on doing the trip with my motorcycle but I pussied out, plus, I don't think my bike is quite up to spec for a trip like that. Since I'm going with my car I'm taking a passenger, which should make the trip more interesting. With my bike I was going solo.

If you get an oil change in socal try and find an EZ-Lube, they're pretty cheap and do a decent job. They also have cameras that let you see what the mechanic is doing to your car in the waiting room.

Toronto to Vancouver?

Are you planning to use synthetic? If so, you will not get a place that charges less than $40 US to do it. I guess your best bet would be to go to a tire chain place like Hogan tire. If need be, go to NTB, but I hate that place.

Otherwise, pretty much every place (atleast in MA) charges less than $30 for a regular oil change. Heck, a dealer usually charges $35 to do it and if you have a coupon, it then cost around $24.

NAPA is a good place to get your filter and oil.
