Where/how to mount portable NAV

After some research, I just bought a Garmin StreetPilot c330 for my wife's 2005 Toyota Sienna. I have only used it a little bit, but it is all that I had hoped for.

However, attempting to mount it on the windshield has raised three problems:

1. I believe it is illegal in California;
2. The unit ends up too far away from the driver;
3. The unit partially blocks the driver's view.

ProClip does not seem to have a mount for the c330 (I have a ProClip for my phone in my car and I love it).

Using the sticky disk on the dash is an option, but I do not want to damage the dash unnecessarily.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I have seen articulating arms used in the cup holders. Still, all of the cup holders are way too low in the Sienna. You could try something similar in the change cubby in the dash, that is make an insert that is a base for your mount. This might be a question for the Siennaclub.

Yeah, I tried that, too: A familiar looking post?

Can you get something to mount on a HVAC grill?

Better idea: Use the suction cup to mount it to your wife's forehead when she's in the passenger seat. :D

I tried using the AC vent mounts when I was looking for solutions for my phone. I was not happy with them and were afraid that the vents would break. The NAV is much heavier than my phone, so that is probably not the way I want to go.

I set up our c550 on the lower portion of the windshield to the left of the gauge cluster. It doesn't block the view and its fairly accessible (i'm right handed). If you have the tools you could build a custom bracket mount that's positioned to where it works best for your wife.
