CDs are in a 100 CD 'booklet' type thing.

Data on a hard drives goes on my RAID 5 array. Important data also gets backed up to an external drive every few months, my external drive lives in a locked drawer at work in case my house is destroyed by a rabid pack of monkeys that feeds on wallboard, wood and steel (or an earthquake, fire, or other natural disaster, but the monkeys are a more entertaining possibility).

I use file drawers once used for 5.25" floppies, etc. CDs and DVDs fit nicely.

I mirror my music collection onto a second hard drive in my PC (master/slave, no RAID) in case of drive failure. I'm considering a 3rd copy on my other PC, but would need a bigger drive in it.. Movie backups go onto CDs (soon to be changed to DVDs) in a big CaseLogic binder.

same here, along with spindles

my most used programs get imaged with alcohol 120% and placed on my server. Then I just mount them on a virtual CD drive when I need them

RTFP! What you say is you store your media on media. I would repeat the question - OK, where do you store those DVDs? And, if you have orignal software CDs, where do you store them? THAT is the question. :)

I basically have large CD/DVD binders. One for original software CDs (with CD keys) and media that has software downloads, patches, service packs, etc. All software media (non game related) goes into this one binder.

The 2nd binder is used for game CDs and media with game patches/updates.

simmer down there sparky. Media may also refer to data...usually audio/visual data, but doesn't necessarily preclude other forms as well. Thus far, 90% of the people here have been answering hard drives or file servers and you don't seem to be having an issue with that. I think maybe you might have a hormonal imbalance.

Drive array + tape storage for stuff older than 6mos.

Depends. The music I listen to occasionally is stored in a few of those giant CD booklets. If I listen to it alot (mainly Iron Maiden), it gets stored in a more portable one. Most games also get a few CD booklets, unless the jewelcases are still around or they suck. In the case they get demoted to cans of Strawberry Nestle Nesquik where they stay squeezed up against each other and free AOL trial disks.

I back up important data, pictures, documents on CD and keep them on the booklet. I am thinking about add another booklet cuz it filled up real quick with so many badass games I bought few months ago.

I have an external HD that I use to back-up both my personal and business machines.

I also have data such as business docs on SD cards and DVDs, and pictures and such on DVD.

I have two cd wallets, a small one for the system files, vid mb windows sound card. And a large one for games (I'll soon need another). One too many times ive reloaded and had to grub for the inital driver cd so I've learned to be at least selectivly orginized.

All my software/serials and misc stuff is backed up to CDs, even freeware I backup in case the author decides to pull it off or start charing, so I can still use it in the event of a clean install.

Files that always change, such as my websites are backed up regularly, its all automatic so all I need to do is check the log email account to ensure the backups ran successfully. They're backed up on several locations on the server and rotated a few days deep, and a few weekly ones are kept as well. I try to backup the most important stuff over 2 HDDs on seperate machines.

I've been thinking of getting a dvd burner so I can start doing non magnetic backups. Safer against a giant magnetic pulse or something, if ever there happend to be an occurence of one. You never know.
