Where have you been all my life Discount Tire?

I've done tires at Sam's Club, Costco, cheapies from Wal-mart, and Tirerack (a friend mounted and balanced them when I worked at Pep Boys a few years back).

I was about to just go through Tirerack again to get a set of Goodyear Eagle GT's for my Z without pricing locally. I called Discount Tire just to see how much they'd charge to mount and balance them. Turns out the price of the same tire was very comparable, and they had them in stock.

I made an appointment for the next morning, and was out of there in less than 30 minutes. After taxes I ended up paying about $30 dollars more (~$650 instead of ~$620), but I didn't have to deal with shipping and transporting the tires in my Z.

I'll be going back.

discount tire has been around forever... that commercial they show now adays from that woman throwing the tire through the window is atleast 20 years old.

I know they've been around a long time. I've just never given them a chance.

i never give black ppl a chance because they always want my change, or change in general...

😉

I have tirerack deliver directly to the shop that is going to install the tires-no need for you to lug them around yourself.

I have been a Discount Tire customer for 25+ years. The last time I bought tires was Thanksgiving and I had to go to Sam's Club because it was going to be almost $100 more for a tire with less mileage warranty. I got nice Goodyear tires at Sam's too.

They also fix punctures for free! I've only had to use them once, but will definitely use them again in the future.

They fix them for free even if they didn't sell you the tire.

I always use them for anything tire-related.

I believe they'll also rotate tires for free (even if you didn't buy them there).

EDIT: thank goodness they bought new chairs for their showroom. The old ones were like metal lawn chairs.

There is a world that exists outside of the Internet.

Strange but true.

... thanks for answering my question... ?

Discount Tires is B&M, which is what they're talking about.

I used them when I lived in TX, but after I moved, I found out there are no Discount Tires near me so I will have to find somewhere else to by tires now. 🙁

You know that Tirerack will ship your tires directly to the installer right?

Discount Tire will match TR's price plus shipping, including mounting and balancing. It's nice to get them same day.

I can vouch for that! Bought my latest set at Tire Rack and installed locally by a shop. Got a screw in the tire and Discount Tire patched it up for free!

i USED to use them religiously because they had cheaper than tire rack prices including FREE mounting and balancing.

then a few years back they bumped all their prices up to a little bit more $$ than tire rack prices, and started charging extra for mounting and balancing. in the end you had to pay a smidgen more for everything out the door compared to if you went the tire rack way.

It just seemed too calculated a move for me personally

Ya, but after you've paid to have them shipped there's no real savings. The sales price is good, but that shipping puts it at or above local shops.

I saved more by walking into our local Discount Tire and asking the manager what he could do for pricing on my tires. I paid a lot less by doing that than going thru tire rack.

If you don't mind my asking: what tires did you get, what size, and how much did you pay OTD after installation?

I picked the closest Discount Tire B&M (Moore, OK) and priced a tire that both Discount Tire and Tire Rack carry (Goodyear Assurance TripleTred 215/65-15). Discount Tire's OTD price for 4 tires, installation, and sales tax is $618. Tirerack's price including shipping (I don't have to pay sales tax) plus $50 for my local shop to install them is $501.

I recently picked up a set of 4 Firehawk Indy 500 in the previously mentioned size for $415 after shipping and installation. And that number will drop to $404.36 (to be exact) after I my cash back comes through next month. Unless Discount Tire is willing to drop their price $100+ by haggling with them, it doesn't seem that they are a better deal. It's moot for me since there aren't any B&M stores in my entire state (Missouri).

It probably depends on the actual tires you get. I once had to get a single replacement tire for my (then new) Mazdaspeed 6 and Tire Rack wanted around $210 + shipping. Add on the local installer charge to that of course. Discount Tire ended up only costing around $10-15 more (on a $220 tire after evening out shipping versus tax, etc.) but they had a time advantage. I seriously needed the tire quick because I got a punctured sidewall. The few dollars extra was worth the time savings.
