Where does XP keep its files

I have an OEM version of XP Home and as such I only have a recovery CD and not the full version. My disk has only one file (a bootable image file) and nothing else. I need to install the Windows Fax software on my computer but it is asking for the Windows XP CD. I assume that just like Win9x that with the OEM version key files (CABs etc) are copied in a folder on the hard disk somewhere.

does anyone know where this folder is?

Can I use my XP Pro CD to install the Fax software on Win XP Home?

Am I making sense?

Look for a folder called i386 on your drive. That will have the XP install files on it. Out of curiosity what brand model is it that you got the OEM cd with? Most of them don't do the single file anymore. The Dell ones we get at work just use the Microsoft supplied deployment tools (Sysprep, UDF files, etc.)

I could have specified a full Windows XP CD or the recovery CD. Being on a tight budget I opted for the recovery CD. I have no grounds to complain about the lack of files on CD - only at myself for being so tight!

What about my XP Pro CD-ROM. Will this work if I insert this into the XP Home system to install the MS Fax Software?
