Where does the stereotype that Asians have lower verbal IQ come from?

I passed the national French exam, I didn't study for it, I took 45 min to do it when it was supposed to be a 3 hour test and got A A A (reading comprehension, writing skills and grammar, or something like that). Seriously, I am a mediocre student. I can't possibly be smarter than my fellow Asians at engineering.

Um, not even really funny.

I do not know who these "people" are, but none I know has ever said that about Asians.

The ONLY thing I have ever heard is that the push for math and science has stunted their artistic development (and has caused some interesting backlash figures with genuinely unusual artistic modes) but language?

Complete farce.

I am guessing it is the whole stereotype about Asians studying away night and day like a little closet nerd that it caused them to be socially awkward?

Makes sense

It's because a lot of Asians I've met are bilingual, and it's hard to score verbally well in one language when you are that. I went to high school with a boatload of asians, mostly Hmongs, but they never scored well in English tests, even though they could speak English and Hmong fluently.

What about the Asians that aren't bilingual and can only speak English?

There are called Western born Asians if I recalled.

I'd say there is some truth to that stereotype if you're born in the East and came to the west when you're young or still a teenager. It makes sense, English isn't your mother tongue...

My english sucks to be honest, i was was born in china and didn't speak a word of english till i was 10 years old.
