maybe it used to be an "exclusive" whiskey, but now it's fairly mainstream..

Give it the sports bar test... if it's served in sports bars, it's not a premium liquor

Judged against other Canadian Whiskeys, quite good.
Judged against North American Whisk(e)ys, not bad.
Judged against all Whisk(e)ys: total sh*t.

Seriously, comparing North American Whisk(e)ys against quality single-malt Scotches is like comparing brands of grape juice to the world of Wine.

For what you need it for, it is a good whiskey. It doesn't bite you back and it mixes nicely. It's better than giving somebody a bottle of canadian mist, jim beam, or black velvet that's for dang sure.

No, it's like comparing different types of wine.

malt, rye, corn, and various blends all taste different, and are designed for different purpose.

You may prefer scotch, not everyone does. etc.

Wouldn't it be more like comparing Boone's and MD 20/20 to actual wine? 🙂

I dont know. Rye > bourbon.

but scotch and rye - well it depends on the mood. they are almost a completely different drink.

crown is fine for mixing. you can drink it with coke like water. the special reserve is ok to drink neat, but i prefer other premium whiskeys to it.

In my opinion, Crown Royal is top of the line.

Depends on the other whiskeys in that same line.

Gentleman Jack puts a whoopin' on Crown.

Yeah, Jack is good
Gentleman Jack is even better
I can't drink it too often, though, or I'll turn back into an alcoholic. I love that stuff.

For inexpensive whiskeys, Crown is good stuff. It's smooth, light, and can be enjoyed neat. Not "premium" though.

Someone asked, "what is the best whiskey you can buy?" The answer to that is two-part. First, what kind of whiskey do you like? There are many different types -- Scotch, Irish, Bourbon, Canadian, Tennessee, etc. And second, you probably can't afford the absolute best, as the prices go up really quick as the quality goes up.

I really like rye. It's my favourite kind of whisky. Crown is good, definitely better than Canadian Club. I really like Century Reserve 21 though.

For the price you cant go wrong with Johnnies Black label.

Blue is you can afford it...

good solid scotch whiskey.

Gah, Canadian Mist taste like sh!t to me... I could drink the skunkiest cheap ass beer but Canadian Mist is just

 good stuff. I really like Bushmills 10 year. It's smooth and not as expensive as a lot of them out there.
