Crown is a good Canadian whisky.

That's an oxymoron if I ever heard one.

Yep, Crown Royal is an acceptable whiskey for those who shop with the idea that low price is the primary goal. If you were to rank whiskeys based on actual quality, it would be way way way down on the list.

what is the best whiskey you can buy?

No, your question is too vague. What kind of whiskey, Bourbon, Scotch, Irish, Rye or something else?

I dunno, I'm admittedly no whisky connoisseur but I always thought Crown tasted pretty good. And it's not exactly scraping the bottom of the barrel in price either.

Canadian whiskeys are sort of like American commercial brewery beers. They're light and designed to offend as few people as possible. They're great for th casual drinker and scorned by the connoisseur. Since Murphy is an admitted beginner, Canadians are a good place to start. They're inexpensive and mix nicely with almost anything (especially giner ale and 7-Up due to the mellow taste). My objection to Crown Royal is that it tried to position itself as a "premium" Canadian. That's like saying Michelob tries to position itself as "premium" Anheuser-Busch beer. It's a contradiction in terms, Canadian whiskeys ARE NOT PREMIUM WHISKEYS. They're inexpensive blends. Crown Royal does taste pretty good, it just doesn't taste any better than the others.

Murphy, I recommend you shop by price. There's not a big difference between Crown Royal and the cheaper stuff like Canadian Mist. They're all pretty similar and none of them taste bad.
