where do you keep your ID badge?

Wallet. Ours need to be close, but they still work from 1-2 inches. Were you told it needs to press against it, or did you try it out.

On lanyard, kept in briefcase. Our smart cards will expire before the system is functional. When issued four years ago, we all had to pick PINs. After four years of non-use, we'll all remember those. We've had card reader keyboards for three years. They are going an excellent job of keeping the storage locker in the IT shop from floating away. About once a year we have a pre-announced security inspection so folks try to remember to wear their IDs for that. With twelve employees in the office and low turnover, ID cards seem a bit dumb.

We have to have ours visible, so when I'm in the office I have to have it clipped to my shirt. When I leave, I put it in the glove compartment my car.

I kept breaking my lanyard when entering the parking area. It was retractable, but just not good enough. I have it on my belt now and take it off to swipe when parking.

I clip mine to the base of my shirt so its out of the way. As soon as i leave I put it into the spot between the handle and the door in my car because it fits perfectly there. That way I never forget it on the way to work.

I tried it out... needs to be within a millimeter or two (works in a clear plastic case, but not in my wallet).

I have a see-through pocket in the front of my wallet. That's totally where I keep it...

In my wallet. I have to take it out to show it to a live person 4-5 times a day, but only swipe it like twice a year for anything. Although everyone who has their own computer uses it to log in.

Ditto... I liked when I worked at Datatel better than where I am now in this regard... they were RF-based, so you just kinda did a little hip shuffle and the door unlocked. Now we gotta swipe 'em and some of the swipers require a special touch or they won't read your card .

When I had one that was an RFID Proximity ID Badge, I clipped it to a belt loop, which put the ID near the same level as the reader, so the door would unlock while I was standing by the reader.

One that had to be scanned, swiped, and RFID, I used a lanyard with a snap lock on it, so that I could quickly detach it, it was always visible, and the lanyard would break away (from me and the badge) if it got caught on anything. Would also be convenient for keycard based computer authentication.

For temporary clip-on badges, I usually attach them to a shirt button, or near a button hole, or to the top of my shirt pocket.

We have to have our IDs visible at all time at work. I clip it at the right side of my belt. I used to work at one of the largest Hotel and Entertainment company and it required IDs to be at the chest level (either left or right).

We do too, but I work in a closed office and people know if I'm around.
