I seem to recall there was a company based out of Australia who would sell the Frontline/Advantage stuff much cheaper than in the U.S. and without a prescription. You just divided out the amounts based on the weight of your animals. It might have been sold for horses & stuff, same formula just different doses.

Ring any bells? Bueller? Bueller?

I have four cats and one dog that need it. Trying to avoid being bent over the table by the vets

sounds familiar, but cant remember the site. interested here too. frontline seems to be about the only one we've used that works, but costs an arm and a leg. When will it go generic?

If your house is carpeted try sprinkling 2 boxes of 20 mule team borax on them and sweep in w/broom. Vacuum up a day later and you've broken the flea life cycle by killing the eggs in the carpet. This worked so well for me I no longer need additional flea control products at all.

Thanks Boomer and Butch.

I have done Borax, but I guess didn't sprinkle enough and I didn't sweep it in. I'm vacuuming the entire place today and will try applying Borax as you said - thanks.

I tried them once...Yes, their prices usually are MUCH better than at the vet's office, but MOST of the time, I can beat their prices by quite a bit at the link I posted above, even after shipping is calculated in.

Ah good to know, cause the commercials they use sure make it seem like they are the uberness of the pet med business.

They're definitely better than your local veterinarian's office or even Petco/Petsmart, but with a bit of careful shopping, you CAN beat their prices...sometimes by a considerable amount.

Here's another good source:

You may still need to use products to kill the existing flea population as the Borax treatment only prevents more eggs from hatching in the carpet. products like frontline were not around when I started using borax so I can't say how much better/longer lasting they are then what I was using 8 years ago. Living in FL there is no hard freeze to help so it's a challenge but I repeat it once a year and so far have had good luck. Google it, "borax flea" to read others stories, I was skeptical but for $6 for 2 boxes of borax I figured it was worth a shot..

I've done business with these folks for many years, for dog/cat supplies as well as aquarium supplies.

No prescription needed for the flea meds...fucking vets anyway.

USUALLY the best prices around for this stuff and shipping is both fair and fast.

I bought from this site recently for turtle supplies, they definitely had the best prices. Shipping can be a little steep (10 bucks for a few pounds of stuff) but it can be defrayed by coupon codes online. drsfostersmith has a lot of coupon codes, you may find some specifically for dog/cat meds, I just used a general $5 off coupon

I agree - my ex used it with good luck, but I haven't had any and it seems that is because I didn't use enough. The broom is a good idea too.

Thanks all

I've never found a place cheaper than www.petsuppliesnet.com. Here's a link to a large thread on the website. That's where I heard about it.

They're very legit and based out of Australia. Best of all they don't require a prescription for heartworm preventative. I order HeartGuard and Frontline Plus from them about once a year. The only knock against them is that it takes about 2 weeks to receive the meds.

Here's a word of advice. If you own more than one dog, then buy a dose for a larger dog and split it between the two. I split a HeartGuard for 26-50-lb dogs in half for my two under-25-lb dogs. I also split the largest size of Frontline Plus among all three of my dogs. I save boatloads of money by doing this.

Edit: It's funny; I just now read your OP. I would bet that petsuppliesnet is the Australian company you're thinking of. Initially I just read the subject and hurriedly posted about the uber-cheap site.

I use the Frontline spray instead of the individual doses.

I've used these folks. We bought some revolution which I believe here in the states would require a prescription because its for heartworms also, but being based in australia, you don't. Also they had very low prices if not the lowest prices.

Thanks folks - those are some good resources. I am in a hurry as it turns out, so I'll need to order in the U.S. Thanks!
