I know, we're supposed to be an indifferent group of fashion luddites/nerds but I feel like my own personal style hasn't evolved sufficiently for a 30something male. It's funny - the other parents I see have sorta flipped the usual script - women are now the indifferent schlubs in tshirts and sweats while a lot of the dads seem to put a lot of effort into what they wear. I'm also in a sales/client facing field and I never do well in the summer - either I'm way too hot/overdressed or look like i'm slumming it since polos do not go well with my pot belly. My work go to is a swealtering cardigan and tie, casual time is spent in t-shirts and jeans, which is feeling out of place the older I get.. I mean, I still have band t-shirts from bands that broke up 14 years ago

Guys here who do keep up with fashion - any resource you recommend? I'm in a big city (NYC) and work in scenester central Brooklyn, so while I don't want to be a pretentious ass I'd at least like to blend

I wear bdu/acu pants, boat shoes or boots, and some kind of shirt, usually T. All are bought used unless I got it as a gift. I did buy a 5pack of work gloves from harborfreight today. 20% off coupon woot!

No fashion advice. I mainly use plain t-shits/polo shirts and jeans (Costco, Target, Walmart) in black most of the times. Slip-resistant casual shoes.

Blue Jeans (Kirkland) and t-shirts...Carhartt henleys, MOST of the time, usually with"tennis shoes,"

In the summer, jorts and t-shirt or button-up sports shirts...and sandals.

Fashion? pfft...wear what you like. Leave fashion for the wimmenz and metrosexuals.

I'm thinking of hanging my pants around my thighs as I walk outside.

I get my fashion advise from the wife... because of course, she knows everything.

No but srsly, I'm at a point in life where I simply just don't care. I have way more important shit to worry about in life at this point. As long as I don't look like a clown when I leave, I figure I'm pretty much safe.

Work: Dress pants (ensure they aren't cuffed or pleated) + Dress Shirt (I like being safe, whites, blues, light purple, occasional red or light plaid-ish) + dress shoes (Standard black - prefer Allen Edmonds). I don't deviate too much from this..

Home: Basketball shorts and workout t-shirt. As comfortable as possible.

Going out: Jeans (maybe shorts in summer) + Button-down... as long as it's not a fisherman's shirt or something, it's hard to screw up.

When you're as well endowed as me, that is a real problem. Suspenders just make the problem worse, like a human slinky.

Here are most of mine:
Work - well fitted chinos (mostly banana republic or express) and a polo or long sleeve button up shirt. Polos are mostly all Ralph Lauren knits and shirts are express 1MX. I very rarely will wear a sport coat.
Out, upscale - well fitted jeans (lucky, sevens, or similar) or shorts. Shorts fall above knee and are not cargos. Button up or polo per above. Also have short sleeve button ups I'll wear when it's warm.
Out, less upscale - "sport shorts" like Lululemon casual shorts, fitted sweats (Lululemon or similar) paired with a solid color v-neck tee.
Casual - same as above but with printed tee (I have a lot of fitted tees that are crossfit / fitness related)

This gets me though just about everything. Most women compliment my style.

Got any female friends? Most girls love to shop. I always just took a girl out shopping when I was single; my wife picks out all of my clothes now. It's glorious!

If you have a bit of a budget, check out a service like Trunk Club:

https://www.trunkclub.com/mens

Same idea as Hello Fresh or Blue Apron, but for clothes.

Probably the youtube channels alpha M., and Real men. Real style. It's a subject I delve into quite infrequently.

My style of dress hasn't changed in the last 45 years. So I guess I don't get any fashion advice.

Look at websites for stores like J crew, Express, Banana Republic, or Zara. They generally reflect the standard fashion trends. Also store associates will help you out if you don't know what you want.

Go into stores. See what they sell. See what you like. Try it on. Look in the mirror. Do you look like everyone else at work and won't stand out like a complete tool? If so, buy it. Now your "fashionable".
