Where do you get thick thermal interface from?

There is a wide (1-2mm) gap between the heat sink and the RAM chips on 7900 GTX or GTO graphics cards.

Some type of thermal tape is used for those. It is not regular thermal tape, which is about 0.2mm. It is much thicker.
You can see it in this picture (the eight white squares around the GPU).

Where can I get some of that from?

1~2mm=.040~.080" in my old head and that's A GAP!

Email Gary Stofer at sidewindercomputers.com or get in touch with FrozenCPU or performance-PC.

My mind thought of filling the gap with copper shim stock *shrugs* The stock Intel pad is very thick at .019". I have some Shin Etsu here that's only .015" thick.

I hope you have a set feeler gauges to get a close reading of what needs filling.

Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know what the manufacturers use?
It is a loose material! It is not too sticky. I remember from the past when I removed my 7800 cooler.

I want to be prepared when/if I remove my sink to replace it with a Zalman cooler.

By the way, eVGA officially supports after market coolers being used on their cards by the user. Their warranty covers it as long as the card is returned to them in the original state it was.
