where do you do your primary banking?

Bank of New York money market and brokerage. They can handle things a simple retail account cant.

I have a local bank account for cashing the 4 or so checks I get a year. No complaints at all with bny.

it's a regional bank that I've never heard mentioned on AT before, but Valley National Bank if you're super curious.

I hate their ATMs at the Bridgewater Commons. It swallows your card and doesn't give it back until about 30 seconds after it prints your receipt. I wouldn't be surprised if people walk off without their card all the time because they absentmindedly think they already put it in their wallet.

that was the other reason I banked with them

(not because of the ATM machines that swallow your card, but because they had ATM's in all the malls I went to on a regular basis... not really a factor now, though, because I hardly pay cash for anything anymore)

Having said that, I switched to my local CU a few years back, and immediately feeling like I wanted to kick myself for not doing it sooner. Their customer service is top notch, they are always upgrading their website, adding more features and improve the UI, etc. There's also the additional bonus of very competitive loan/mortgage rates.
