Where do I go to find out how to set up my LAN ?

I'm planning on running my computers side by side. I have the ip address/subnet mask. I have however forgotten since two years ago how or where I am supposed to go to input that information?

Please provide a detailed note on where I need to go. I thought it was /start then /control panel/ then network settings. But that just allows me to find the actual numbers.

I'm confused as to what you are doing. How are these physically being connected? Switch, router, crossover cable? Are you sharing an internet connection? What operating systems?

I was actually trying to figure out how to type in static addresses.

I finally found the tcp/ip setting location. I looked on this computer and see that it is not a static setting.

I'm definitely still treading water on this build. Hair is still intact though. So far

Sharing internet connection through a router (switch cable). Win xp os.

The new computer has something under the network settings called 1394 connection. The asus k8v se deluxe is supposed to have onboard lan for internet. I checked the bios and the Lan is 'enabled' the Onboard Lan boot rom is (disabled). I'm not sure what the lan boot rom has to do with me being able or unable to see the lan connector under 'connections'.

Maybe it is time for me to try to download the newest support drivers from asus.

Right-click on [Network Neighborhood]/[My Network Places] on your Desktop and choose <Properties>. Right-click on the icon that says [Local Area Connection]. On the [General] tab, look for [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)].
Double-click on it and you should see whether or not you are set up for DHCP or static IP. If you want to use Static IP, you may want to put in the IP addresses of the DNS servers. Your router configuration screens should give you this info.

Also, check device manager and make sure your nic is installed. If you have an "other devices" category, or yellow ?'s or !'s, you have a problem.
