Where do I find computer screws?

I'm looking to build a few systems and need to find some screws that will fit the case and some for hard drive, floppies, and DVD-ROM's

I think these are 5mm and 6mm, but not sure. Can I pick them up from a local hardware store?

just post in for sale/trade, some hardware geek with 23,953 of those screws will send you some for the cost of postage or maybe even free

if you have to buy them, one good online place is ComputerGate

ComputerGate also sells jumpers, but again, if you post in for sale/trade, there is a good chance somebody with a pile will help you out with a few, if you need a ton, buy them online. you can also find smaller quantities on ebray

do look too hard.. you'll get buried in them... When I started to work with hardware, I had a hard time getting my hands on stuff like that... no thats its been a few years... they're every where in my house!! under the couch, on my desk, in the frige... don't ever leave two screws in the same bin... they'll multiply on you!!

if you need/want'em right away (like today or over the weekend), your best bet might be to look up local computer service/repair shop(s) in the yellow pages, and give'em a call or pay'em a visit. I'm sure they'll sell you some.

you *could* try your local hardware store, but I *highly* doubt they'll have'em.

I've needed jumpers a couple of times. Both occasions I went to a local computer repair place and asked to buy a jumper. Both times they gave them to me for free. I bet you could get the screws for free this way, or at most have to pay a couple bucks. Got to some small shop.

worked for me
1) walk to local small computer shop
2) ask if they sell screws
3) get given little bag of them free.

its a cheap way to build up customer loyalty, i guess!

I always get my from Fry's Electronics. They sell bags that have different screws, paper washers, spacers, jumpers, etc. All in one bag. I'm sure any local computer place in your area would have the same type of thing.

Been there and done that already..don't think they will mind a time or two, just not every week.
