I need to download IE5+ for a machine at work, but I can't do the live download/install thing because that box has issues with the proxy server. Does anyone know where I can get the full binaries?
Another option, although complicated is to use the Internet Explorer Administration Kit or IEAK. You can then set up a custom IE install with favorites and everything. Search for IEAK at Microsoft.
I've found that IEAK is a pain because you have to install the version of IE before you can get IEAK up and running. For instance, if I wanted to customize the latest IE6 beta with its IEAK, I'd have to have IE6 installed already. It kinda defeats the purpose if I only wanted one install of IE from that IEAK.
Just use the "Download Only" customization of the normal ie5setup.exe (or ie4setup or ie6setup) process. There is something special you'd have to do if you are using Win2K tho.
I don't know about Win2K, but this works for Win9x. Go to windowsupdate.com or wherever you can find it at MS's site. First you download ie5setup, run that, then select custom. You can select what options you want and also specify to download to HD.
Okay, I must have missed that "download to HD option"
The problem is just that it's a really old machine, and to say that Netscape runs as slow as molasses in Siberia would be giving it way too many props.
I'll go see if I can get the download to HD thing goin'
Maybe you should try Opera. This might be a good choice if you're installing it on an older machine with (presumably) a smaller HDD. It's only 9 megs full install with Java. Opera's a great browser anyway.
