Where did you get your work ethic?

I've always been motivated to work, to make money and to get something done. Life's fun that way. Never really thought about it, but my best guess is that my father, a serious musician, worked hard at it; and my relatives on the farm had to work like crazy or bad things happened.

Where did you get your work ethic, or if you're not a workaholic, why?

My father, doing what ever needed to be done to provide for his family and not complaining because things could always be worse but to keep working harder so things can be better.

My dad taught me that hard work earned an honest paycheck. Makes me sad to see the attitude of some people now who think things should be handed to them.

Learned my work ethic from my parents. Lost my work ethic by being screwed over by two large corporations over the last decade.

I don't even know how to define my work ethic, so I have no idea. I guess I have a good work ethic but am just very easily distracted.

Wonder why you're easily distracted - oh, cool, the Yankees just pulled into the lead with Teshera sliding into home just ahead of the throw. Oops.

Uncles farm.
Boy Scouts.
Navy.
Factory job.

Thats one of the reasons I'm so pissy most of the time. Many of the people I meet daily have a relatively shitty work ethic and I hate being around them. Especially at school.
ESPECIALLY when we have group projects.

The Lions had a great draft so that is something to be hopeful for (assuming you are a Lions fan of course).

From my dad, but I am by no means as extreme as he is.

He goes out to a project as the head engineer making 200k+/yr, and could stay home 90% of the time if he wanted. Instead he works 60+hr weeks and has no problem picking up a shovel and digging trenches with the laborers all day if that's what is delaying the project.

My parents were poor, so I had to earn my own money.

Started working as a farmhand at twelve. Was working full time by sixteen.

Work ethic has never been a problem. Motivation is. When shit hits the fan or you need something done I'll work 24 hours straight and barely step away to eat or use the bathroom. But in periods of downtime I simply loathe busy work, papwork and the other usless layering and self fellating that management has been able to interject in your day to day life.

Where did I get it? My parents. They are your protypical blue collar, middle class slave where you get to work on time every day, bust your ass, and go home...rinse repeat kind of worker that employers love.

I can't comprehend workaholics, unless you are doing something you truly love, something that you are willing to forsake other parts of your life for. For me a job is a means to an end. My work ethics comes from my study of Philosophy and the conclusions I reached whilst studying. My main conclusion was that as there is no true purpose to life, the reason for your being is something you set yourself. The reason I set... Was to have fun, and experience / learn as much as possible. If I'm not having fun or experiencing something new I'm wasting my time. So I work, I earn money and I use my money to have fun and to learn through experience. if I could do that without work I would do it in a split second.
