Not everyone is into shooting games or realistic looking racing games. I agree that the GC didn't have a very good controller, but the Wii's controllers are just intuitive. Also the games that the Wii has are the types anyone can get into, not just hard core gamers. Another thing is that the Wii's multiplayer "kiddie" games (like Wii Sports, Wii Play, Mario Party, etc.) are just "pick up and play" type games that don't require you to invest hours into the game. Most people can't sit in front of a screen playing for hours on end and find quick 10 minute gaming sessions just as fun. Playing with friends and family in these games can be fun as well. I get a kick out of watching my parents and grandparents playing each other in bowling Wii Sports and the fishing game in Wii Play.
