But.. where did/do dairy cows(and meat cows for that matter) come from?

I've heard of wild horses. Cats, dogs, etc.

But I've never heard of a wild cow. Is there such a thing?

What's the deal?

haha I couldn't help it but chuckle thinking about what some dumb blonde said on an episode of "Simple Life". She said "Cows came from outer space".

So we've basically come up with our own breed of cows through selective breeding?

Where did they originate?

It's just like other farm animals - chickens, pigs, etc. Chickens use to be able to fly. In fact on Bermuda there are wild chickens everywhere which are very trim and pretty, and fly around. We just selectively breed them to be too big and fat to fly. There was a time when the chicken pens had the fence over the top too to keep them flying off.
