Where did all these Windows 3.1 bashing BONEHEADS come from?

Grow up, first of all windows 3.1 may be old, but it has never BSOD'd once in the 6 months I've used it. I'd like to see you say that about Win98...

Mine doesn't BSOD, but then again I'm just a simple person.. P2 400 not OC'd on a old RELIABLE BX mobo.

My 2K system has been up for 67 days now too. P3 850 512 meg and again BX chipset.

The only time I ever used Win 3.1 was when we had 3.11 for Workgroups installed at school. At the time, I was a DOS/Desqview man myself!

Win 3.1 is shyte!

BTW, I have had WinME installed for 4 months now, and I haven't had a BSOD ONCE.

I like Windows 3.1. Only problem is its really old, no new drivers or anything for most stuff. When I last used it 3.5 years ago on a p200 mmx, it flew 🙂. It'd be nice on an P3 940 🙂

There isn't anything wrong with W3.1

Mine never ever crashed in the years I used it on a 386 and 486. It was a massive leap from Windows 3 and Windows 2 (uuuuuuurrrrrggggggggghhhhh). Having said that I did use DOS concurrently all the time with it.

Remember though, both MacOS (spit) and Amiga OS at the time that W3.1 came out were miles better, and although W3.1 was the best the PC had to offer in terms of an OS with a GUI, it was lame compared to them.

<< I bet most people who ever had Win 3.x installed, used it together with DOS 😀 >>

Didn't you have to have DOS installed to run Win 3.1??

I thought W95 was the first Windows that was actually an operating system in and of itself.

They both need DOS to run. I actually have an UNOPENED and SEALED copy of MS Windows 3.1. Will this be worth any money? 🙂

about as much as a plate of poop. 🙂

My Win98 hasn't either. I haven't seen a BSOD on my system for at least a year. I loved 3.1 too, back then it was more of a utility that accompanied DOS rather than an OS 😀 I like to make the correlation of Windows95/98/ME to US car manufacturers - they both get a really bad rap for no reason. When Win95 came out, everyone I spoke with had me convinced it was a big buggy, crashing, BSOD'ing beast - I thought I wouldn't be able to go 5 boots without a screwup, and everyone else thought the same. Then I got it and it worked great for me, and I never had a gripe since, but people love to bash it for some reason. I bet half the Windows bashers don't know enough to keep a system in working order anyways...

My experiences:

Windows 2.0 - never used it - scared me away
Windows 3.0 sucked, but was OK for its time
Windows 3.1 sucked much less.
Windows 3.11 was about the same as 3.1
Windows 95 was mediocre.
Windows 98 was actually not bad.
Windows ME - never used it - scared me away
Windows 2000 - pretty good.
Windows XP - never used it but it's ugly as hell.
