In Canada it's illegal to broadcast false or misleading news.
So CBC CTV and Global
LOL at CBC being unbiased

" When it comes to covering huge national events like elections or natural disasters, CBC can still dominate, but in other contexts, the network’s coverage remains more controversial, especially among conservative Canadians who feel the network has a persistent left-wing bias."

Haha....silly wabbits, we're never going to get unbiased news. These are the times we live in, sensational, hyperbolic, spun, cutting floor edited, yellow journalism. The only way to get the whole truth is to be a fly on a wall, or an eye witness.

I like to watch/read foreign news to get different point of view. I do like NHK in Japan and Aljazeera in ME and BBC in UK.

Pure unbiased news? I do not think it is possible.

The NYT really discredited itself this election, something they'd readily admit. Shortly after Nov 8 I got sick of it and called to cancel. The girl I spoke with slashed the price for a couple months to keep me on and admitted they were hemoragging subscribers due to their election coverage. I still think the NYT is a great paper and puts out some of the best investigative journalism, but i also think they need to do some soul searching after their biased coverage of the election.

PBS as mentioned above is a sure bet. Although you can tell they do lean left, it's much more controlled and professional than NPR for instance. It's a shame we just lost Gwen Ifill because she was one of the best.

"Bias" is not the problem. You should be more concerned with Accuracy, True, and Not Misleading.

The NYT and much of mainstream media turned out to be not just biased but also highly inaccurate as far as coverage of this election cycle goes.

I don't think it exists... personally, I just like to read from a variety of sources.

as much as I read the Washington Post and NY Times, I also read RedState and National Review... I also force myself to listen to a couple conservative/libertarian podcasts just to hear some dissenting views, even if their coverage makes me angry.

You can get factual information from any source. Even Infowars or Breitbart will have some actual facts sprinkled among the rest of the crap. It's pretty easy to determine the difference between an actual quote and an editorial interpretation of said quote. There is video evidence. Official transcripts, audio, etc. If the original source is an anonymous official you can safely assume you are being lied to. If all the linked sources point to other articles from the same site you can safely assume you are being lied to. The fact that you are asking for unbiased sources just tells us you aren't capable of figuring this out for yourself.

Step 1 - Learn your fallacies.
http://www.iep.utm.edu/fallacy/
https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/fallacies/
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/659/03/
http://writingcenter.unc.edu/handouts/fallacies/

Step 2 - Take a basic critical thinking course.
http://ocw.usu.edu/English/introduc...ic-prose/week-1-monday-critical-thinking.html
http://www.ed.ac.uk/institute-academic-development/postgraduate/taught/learning-resources/critical
https://www.umb.edu/academics/caps/degree/creative-thinking

Armed with those two, you can probably extract fact or at least the trail that leads to fact from any bullshit news source you come across.

Step 3 - Avoid editorials until you have a clue about the subject matter.

If a news article list a blog as a source - The article is probably not worth reading.
If a news article list previous articles on the same site as a source - Its probably sketchy and not worth reading. ("the classic "as we previously reported..." click bait circle jerk)
If opinion\editorial are sprinkled about the article, its probably not worth reading.

If an article talks about federal budgets, contracts, bills or laws, sources should include the actual documents from *.gov.

If it reports on a conflict, the article should not take sides.

If an article is going heavy on adjectives when talking about foreign leaders or uses incorrect titles (Instead of using official title of "King Douchebag of Bwapistan" they refer to the person as "Brutal Dictator Douchebag of Bwapistan" then its probably a not worth reading.

If the article is filled with assertions without providing any meat and potatoes behind those assertions then the article is probably not worth reading.

Always judge an article or report on it own merit. Journalists\Editors are human. Sometimes even the best push out a shitty misleading article.

buncha other stuff but whatever. Got stuff to do
