Where can I salvage some power MOSFETs?

I need some big power MOSFETs for a project. I already cleaned out my local electronics shop of these components, and proceeded to fry the lot of them.

I smashed up an old Antec power supply with a hammer, but found that all the big 3-pin semiconductor thingies were 'schottky rectifiers' and not MOSFETS. I was sureit would have some, but apparently not... or maybe they are in a smaller package and I didn't notice them?...

Anyway - does anyone know where there are definately going to be some MOSFETS for me? Monitors perhaps? Aps and radios?

those are Schottky diodes. So, no luck. Unfortunately, I don't have any good source for FETs. Do you have a part number? There's a junk bin down in our physics building and they may have something. If I can find some when I'm down there monday, I'd be happy to mail them to ya.

Can't you just buy them? 😕

I could buy them online and wait a couple days, or just wait for tomorrow and find another electronics shop which I haven't already cleaned out, but I figured if I might have them right here in my piles of electronic crap - why not have a look?

Thanks man, but I assume you're in the USA? Most people here are... but I'm in London. Anyone know a good electronics store in London? Yes I know there are heaps of them, but a 'good' one, like not a Maplins.

Nice idea on the university though. I could try my old compsci department, or the EE labs... but I'm no longer a student. I doubt they will let me rummage through their kit.

Ah. 🙁 Yeah, I'm in the USA. Unfortunately, I don't know what IC shops are decent in the UK. GL though, you may get an easygoing lab tech at the EE dept who'll have a couple of FETs for ya.

Pretty much anything switching will have mosfets.. that includes power supplies, audio amplifiers, motor controllers.
