Double major in mgmt & marketing. Currently has 2.5 yrs of post-grad professional experience.

Hired as a Project Coordinator and was promoted to a Project Specialist... I'm pretty sick of my job now. I'm 26 and, as with any ambitious ppl, I really want to be on a fast path... looking to be at the right place at the right time in a small company where I can rapidly grow.

I really want to travel (30-50%) too. I'm getting really sick of sitting in a cube, staring at the monitor 8+ hours a day.

I guess right now is both a crucial and an exciting time where I can shed off entry-level jobs and jump into mid-level...

What field or industry do you think would be good? I'm definitely a ppl person who likes to shake hands...

Honestly from what i have seen hard work is great and all for those early promotions, but after that its not so much how hard you work (as long as you have and are known to have a good work ethic)or what you know, (as long as you meet the qualification for the job of course) it's who you know. Those entry level jobs really require you to be networking and building relationships with as many people as you can. An old boss, old co-worker, past customer, current customer, vendor, supplier, etc could be someone who could help you land a promotion or new job you might otherwise not have received.

The key from my experience is networking and building relationships. Doing that sincerely with people is the best method to "get ahead."

Work for an advertising or promotions agency as an account executive or events rep. I work for a large one, feel free to PM me if you have questions.

Consulting if you're actually likeable. But if you are, you'd probably make more money in sales. Depends on how much risk you can tolerate (dont sell = dont eat).

However, with 2.5 years of experience, you're still looking at an analyst role w/ most consulting firms. That's not exactly going to be schmoozing clients; you'll still be sitting in a cube doing your work, you just might get on a plane to get to that cube once a week. It'll be all about networking internally to get on that fast track, which is pretty much what it would entail at your current job.

Leaving usually involves a solid salary increase, though. I highly recommend it if you're unhappy with your current employer and don't see a future there.

is that like being a buyer? Sales has such a bad stigma to me, I'm thinking it'd be hard to find a LEGITIMATE sales job.
