What kind is the best, and where can I get it? I've heard of Artic something, is that good? some stuff came with my Golden Orb, but not much and I don't think it is very good. Also, what is the most improvement in mhz with quality thermal grease over cheap stuff?

The compound that came with the Golden Orb will do. Don't waste your money on the other $15 crap.

Since you need a tiny drop of it if you buy the $15 Arctic stuff you wont use any of cuz it will be in the bottle for years.

Umm... first off, the stuff that comes on a gorb is okay.. its not the best. You can get thermal grease pretty much anywhere. If you do want the best, you can't beat the Artic Circle crap.

and secondly, artic circle is not crap. Where do you get the idea its crap. its not like you can't store it for a long time.

Compare the thermal compound reviews and the heatsink reviews. Most name brand heatsinks transfer heat well and there's not much difference between the top name brands. (there was essentially no difference between the top 4 Alphas in Anand's review from 3 days ago. But there's a big difference between the heat transfer rate of competing Thermal greases. Especially, when compared to the Radio Shack stuff. BTW Artic Silver Premium Wins with Circuit Works Silver(which I got for free -- thanks HD Forum) a close 2nd. I think it's true that the type of thermal grease might make more difference than the brand of heatsink and fan.

If applied properly, there will be a suction effect between the heatsink and the CPU/chip.

Yeah, I tried to get that Circuit Works Silver stuff, but I never got it. Maybe they weren't sending samples to Canada.

Anyways, I probably wouldn't have used it because it's electrically conductive. Well, I probably wouldn't have used it on anything except my CPU (since none of the leads are exposed on it). The non-conductive Arctic Silver is awesome though.

You get what you pay for. The Arctic Silver is the best stuff out there now, and has performed better than any other thermal grease that I have tried on my Athlons, and video cards. If you have the cash to invest in computer equipment, why skimp on something that will help prolong the life and performance of your investment that only costs $15.00 bucks? Kinda like running regular gas in a hot rod :)
