Where can I get one disc out of a DVD box set?

My girlfriend's house was recently broken into, and they stole my DVD player, with the first disc of the Sopranos Season 4 inside. I still have the box and the remaining discs, so rather than paying for the entire thing, I'd like to get just that disc if possible.

Does anyone have any bright ideas as to where I could get it?

Thanks!

technically speaking, since you did purchase the set, you can have a backup copy. just get someone to burn you a copy.

or perhaps write to the dvd company and see if you can get a 'replacement'.

Try calling the company, explaining your situation, offer to send proof of ownership (ie: pictures of the set or a little tear off tab that many DVDs have), and they might send you a replacement for $5 or something like that.

Remember who you're dealing with though. This is from an interview with Jack Valenti, the former head of the MPAA.

What would you say to a mom who wants to make a backup of her kids? DVD movies?

When you go to your department store and you buy 10 Cognac glasses and two weeks later you break two of them, the store doesn?t give you two backup copies. Where did this backup copy thing come from? A digital thing lasts forever.

aves2k: I talked to a company after having some DVDs pop loose in shipping. (returned two to the retailer, had one of the replacements pop loose) They had a policy of replacing damaged media free within a month or three (don't remember which), and a fee of $5 afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestion! I found a Customer Care e-mail address on the Warner Video Store website, and asked them about replacing the one disc. We shall see . . .

Since you already bought it...I wouldn't see a problem with checking it out at the library for free and burning yourself a copy, as someone else suggested.

That analogy is retarded on so many levels.

Were you expecting any less? I can't remember the exact quote from Valenti but to paraphrase he basically said if you want a backup copy, buy another one. First class assclown.

Anyway, contacting the publisher is probably the best thing to do to get a replacement.

What's it mean to have a DVD 'pop loose'?
